Paper Sculpture by Toop Paper Sculpture by Toop

If it doesn't appear, go to my front page and access it. I had to resubmit this piece, and some people aren't seeing it if they are following the original link

My digital art wasn't ready, but I felt like uploading something.

Purpose
This is the third part of an assignment I did for Design class. The outline was basically just paper sculpture of any type, and there was a wide range of results, but I quickly moved towards manipulating the paper in a specific way.

Method
By the time this one started, I had developed a technique where I simply drew out a pattern of lines that form a bunch of "arms" of increasing/decreasing radius. This isn't very hard, just measuring out all of the rows and columns, and then slicing it up with an exacto knife. It is really time consuming though, this piece took at least an hour to measure and cut, not including test pieces and pattern concepting. From there it's just a matter of gather all of the arms and pushing them around. The arcs are basically created through tension in the paper, and the corners do wonders to help this, though it's not as easy to see in this piece.

Personal Thoughts and Notes
I'm proud of how essentially simple my sculptures were. This particular piece is just one piece of 8.5x11 cover paper (card stock), plus two pins and a little glue. It stands freely, which was quite the chore in itself. I was extremely pleased with the results of this project, and I will probably upload shots of the others if I get around to it.

Please leave any comments, questions, or suggestions you have, I always enjoy feedback. :)

yeah. cool idea to show the 3 angles of it. the 2nd and 3rd ones look sweet, esp the middle one, and i like that the center picture is bigger.
The sculptures themselves are very cool. it looks like they were even more time consuming than you said, since they had to be so exact and percise for them to form properly.
Cool design for them too!
