Hey everyone,

Just a quick update to announce that my personal website is up at www.spencercongdon.com

There you can find descriptions of the projects I have been involved with, along with screenshots and videos where available.  I've also got a blog on there where I will discuss video games, music, and updates to my site.  The new entry today is about the latest Brand New album, "Daisy".

Check it out if you have a chance, comments and feedback are welcome!

I can't believe it has been that long since I wrote a journal. :O

Anyway, I'm posting because I just finished off the backlog I had in my inbox. I believe the highest it got was more 1600 deviations, but over a couple weeks of chipping away at the pile it is all gone.

So for those who don't know or don't remember, I have been finishing my Master's of Science in Computer Game Technology. Should be all wrapped up at the beginning of next year. Until then I don't know what my page will look like, I don't get art time very often. Maybe I will dig up something, I have a couple photos that aren't too shabby. Digital art probably won't be coming down the line any time soon though.

Speaking of, it is good to see comments and deviations from those I haven't talked to in a long, long time on here. Everyone goes through those phases where dA just isn't at the top of the priorities list, but it is nice to get updates and hear how people are doing. The community was always what I enjoyed the most about dA, right after the art that is. :D

Keep watching for possible artworks and now that my inbox is empty I would assume that my comments will come a bit more quickly now. ;P

A Journal!

A Journal!

More school

Back to school for my Master's Degree!  One more year (or sixteen months) couldn't hurt right?  I guess not, except for the bank account.  I'm sure it will be worth it.  Today I had my first class in my Master's in Computer Game Technology degree.  It's been a long time coming, this summer has seemed like one wait after another, with the final one being the start of the semester.  We end up starting later because of the Scottish school year so I got a little extra break at the end of my summer job.  Just enough to get me used to being a TA for some undergraduate classes.  Should be fun!

Concerts

Just quick note here on another good year of concerting.  I saw Collective Soul, Dave Matthews Band, The Foo Fighters, Bloc Party, Radiohead, Brand New, Broken Social Scene, and Rage Against the Machine.  Not a bad collection if I do say so myself.  I don't know how I'm going to keep this up into next year.

Art?

The ssm-deviants are supposed to be having a show (hopefully) this fall/winter.  If that happens I might bust out the charcoal for another piece.  We shall see.  In the meantime I might try for a digital piece.  I don't know how much time school is going to leave me with.  I guess that's about it for now!

This journals lyrics are from Right Where it Belongs by Nine Inch Nails.  Read 'em!

See the animal in his cage that you built
Are you sure what side you're on?
Better not look him too closely in the eye
Are you sure what side of the glass you are on?
See the safety of the life you have built
Everything where it belongs
Feel the hollowness inside of your heart
And it's all
Right where it belongs

What if everything around you
Isn't quite as it seems?
What if all the world you think you know
Is an elaborate dream?
And if you look at your reflection
Is it all you want it to be?
What if you could look right through the cracks?
Would you find yourself
Find yourself afraid to see?

What if all the world's inside of your head
Just creations of your own?
Your devils and your gods
All the living and the dead
And you're really all alone?
You can live in this illusion
You can choose to believe
You keep looking but you can't find the woods
While you're hiding in the trees

The End of Thesis

Journal Entry: Tue Apr 15, 2008, 3:57 PM
End of Thesis

Almost...

Introduction

The section about my thesis is down below because I know most people won't read it.  So I put the usual content up here! :D  School is coming to an end.  This end marking the completion of my undergraduate degree in computer science.  Not that it means the end of school for me though, a Master's Degree is up next.  Should be fun though and keeping busy is part of having fun, no matter what anyone will tell you.  I'd like to note right now that I am almost 100% when it comes to getting garbage in the waste basket across me room (I just threw some old cheese in there).  Anyway, closure on this chapter of life is really interesting to consider.  It feels good right now. =P

And read SmirapDesigns's journal here graphicstreetracer.deviantart.… can even scroll down and read my comment if you want.

ART

Yes I still do art.  I have my print stuff back from art class, I will still try to get it up.  Plus the ssm-deviants club is having a surreal competition and I think that would be a great exercise to get me back into the swing of things.  I've been considering that I really need a solid portfolio of work if I will be applying to game companies in the future, so maybe that will provide some solid motivation over the summer.  I will submit!

Thesis!

So with school winding down my thesis is coming to an end.  Last Friday was the final public presentation which went quite well, especially since I'm not a big fan of public speaking.  I know it went well because all of the questions I got at the end were in depth, a result of people understanding what I was talking about.  That is always reassuring.  I've also been told by my supervisor all sorts of good things about my thesis, so I feel great about how I did on it.  Anyway, today I had a meeting with my supervisor and a guy who has worked in the gaming industry, who my supervisor asked to read my thesis (with my permission) and give me feedback on it.  Let me just say that I have never been through such a rigorous critiquing of anything I have ever done.  My supervisor informed me afterwards that I was basically given a PhD-level critiquing on an undergraduate level thesis.  My supervisor knew this is what would happen too, he just thought I could take it, so he didn't inform me just how intense it would be.

None of this is bad though.  Although the critique was harsh and I have revisions to do before the final submission date, it was a great experience that will allow me to better face future critiques.  Comments have come from project leaders in the gaming industry saying that new graduates are sometimes not able to cope with the harsh realities of having to cut out their hard work in order to better the overall project.  Experience with criticism is valuable in an discipline and right now is a great time to learn to deal with it, for me that is.  My thesis, although long, is far from higher level dissertations, and getting that first time over with is a good step. =P

Finally, I just have to say that I could not believe how physically exhausting it was.  I was never angry, sad, or scared during the critique, and yet I still came out aching.  All of the advise and comments were justified and I appreciated it all.  Yet by the end my head was completely full and I was at a loss for words.  Glad that is over with for now. :)

I'm out!

No big ass speech about lyrics this time, just the lyrics.  Enjoy!

This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate
my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying
over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
till you run out of cake.
And the Science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are
still alive.

I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data
make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are
still alive.

Go ahead and leave me.
I think i prefer to stay inside.
maybe you'll find someone else
to help you.
maybe Black Mesa...
THAT WAS A JOKE, HA HA, FAT CHANCE.
Anyway this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist
look at me still talking when theres science to do
when i look out there
it makes me glad I'm not you
i've experiments to run
there is research to be done
on the people who are
still alive.

and believe me I am still alive
I'm doing science and I'm still alive
i feel fantastic and I'm still alive
while your dying ill be still alive
and when your dead i will be still alive
still alive
still alive

Music is bigger than words...

Artness
Another journal!  This time it only took two months instead of the predicted three. ;P  I have all of my art back from my printmaking class, I just have to figure out how to get it up here.  I do want it up though, I like displaying artwork from more than one medium.  I have to earn that "General Artist" title I claim. =P

I'm also been trying to write a short piece based on a dream that I had, but I just can't get into it. :(  It's all conversation, but I just don't know how to start or end it.  There are alot of things I want included in it, but making it complete just isn't working.  Hopefully I'll figure that out and post it.

Oh!  I might also put some pictures from this year's NAIAS in my scraps.  I don't think I even posted any from last year's show. :O

Lifeness
My life is mostly consumed with school.  At the top of the pile of work is my thesis.  From time to time I really enjoy working on it, and I just hope I can pick up the pace and get it finish in a timely manner.  50+ pages is well beyond what I've ever written before, though my supervisor claims I have a knack for writing.  I'm not so sure.  Either way it has to be done!

Also on the brain is a possible trip to Europe.  It's been a distinct possibility for the last little while, and gets a little more promising each day.  Hopefully a group of friends and I will be flying over, probably to Frankfurt, and driving around for two weeks.  There are a lot of things I'd love to see.  The best part about being a Canadian in Europe is the driving distances.  In Scotland I was describing to someone how it takes 7ish hours to drive from home to Toronto.  This boggles the mind over there though, as its impossible to drive in one direction for 6 hours without falling off of the country. ;P  Anyway, the prospect of visiting half a dozen countries in two weeks is quite appealing as an end-of-university trip. :excited:

Thoughtness
For a random ending to this journal, I still can't believe that Passion has only five favourites.  I'm not asking for more favs or anything, it just seems odd to me.  As one of my personal favourites, I have a hard time understanding why some other get more attention.  Can someone shed some light on this one?  It's been bugging me for a long time, wondering if I just can't see what's wrong with it. =P

Anyway, I'll put in the new lyrics, then I am off to eat.  Then to study I guess.  Thanks for reading. :)

It's been a long time since I've listened to this song, but it's always been a favourite of mine, the lyrics especially.  Death Cab hadn't gotten any attention since I started this section in my journal, so I figured it was about time.  Plus I could put Radiohead in here two times in a row now could I!  Oh, and I've been listening to alot of Mogwai too, but most of their stuff is instrumental. =P

You may tire of me, as our December sun is setting
because I'm not who I used to be
No longer easy on the eyes, but these wrinkles masterfully disguise
The youthful boy below
Who turned your way and saw, something he was not looking for:
both a beginning and an end
But now he lives inside, someone he does not recognize
When he catches his reflection on accident

On the back of a motor bike, with your arms outstretched trying to take flight
Leaving everything behind
But even at our swiftest speed, we couldn't break from the concrete
In the city where we still reside.
And I have learned, that even landlocked lovers yearn
For the sea like navy men
Cause now we say goodnight, from our own separate sides
Like brothers on a hotel bed

Merry Christmas!

Holy Crap I'm Alive
I bet that journal title will look silly after I don't update for another three months  I'm sure anyone that hasn't submitted any art, and therefore doesn't get comments from me, thinks I'm dead and gone.  As it turns out, I am just swamped with school work.  As it turns out, 50 hours of school and 15 hours of work results in a busy life.

This also results in the beginning to a good thesis, and a whole lot of printmaking!  I did 50 prints for my printmaking class this term, so I imagine at least some of those will make it to my gallery.  Especially now that we can organize our galleries, which I haven't had time to do either.  I'm also trying to finish my diecimila redux that I started right after finishing the original =P  I would also love to upload another shirt to threadless, and enter Tonsatz's winter contest.  So much to do, and I haven't even gotten my xbox 360 yet ;P  Oh it will be good to game again.  Though I guess I have been playing Guitar Hero III so I can't complain too much.

Now with Christmas time rolling around, friends are coming into town, so I don't even know if I will get time to do everything I want.  Not that spending time with friends is ever a bad thing ;P  Should be a good one though, relative come here this year, instead of us traveling.  I did hear that their car pretty much exploded this morning though, so that might be an issue.  I head out tomorrow to help my aunt and uncle pack up their stuff for the move to their new house.  They are probably busier than I am, and that is mind boggling.

Anyway, I don't know what more I want to say now, I'm going to go relax now that my last exam is done.  If I don't post again soon, I hope everyone has a merry Christmas!

:santa:
Spencer

New lyrics! :boogie:  This set comes from Subterranean Homesick Alien by Radiohead.  I've been listening to In Rainbows, so I have also been going back to their older stuff, finding out what I really like.  This is one of my favourites, perfect to space out to.  Not to mention it has a perfect set of lyrics to go with the music.  Check 'em out.

The breath of the morning
I keep forgetting
The smell of the warm summer air

I live in a town
Where you can't smell a thing
You watch your feet
For cracks in the pavement

Up above
Aliens hover
Making home movies
For the folks back home

Of all these weird creatures
Who lock up their spirits
Drill holes in themselves
And live for their secrets

They're all uptight
Uptight.. [x7]

I wish that they'd swoop down in a country lane
Late at night when I'm driving
Take me on board their beautiful ship
Show me the world as I'd love to see it

I'd tell all my friends
But they'd never believe
They'd think that I'd finally lost it completely

I'd show them the stars
And the meaning of life
They'd shut me away
But I'd be all right
All right..

I'm just uptight
Uptight.. [x7]

Who the What the Where the?

Absence Explained
Contrary to popular believe I am still here, I actually still visit dA every time I manage to get on my computer.  As some of you may have noticed I even submitted a work of art! 4000+ pageviews later, my 5k work reappears as something not quite as originally imagined.  I'm pleased with it though, it has elements of my most popular works in it, making it more of a tribute to my gallery than it ever was intended to be.  With school starting up again, it's hard to tell if I will become more or less active, we will just have to find out.  I have to make my way through 300+ deviations in my inbox, which seems insurmountable at the moment.

A Congratulations
Orikon scored another DD a little which back, which is no surprise to me, this guy is insane.  His work is kicking ass, though school is always a slow time for him too.  So get your fill before he disappears again by checking out Shinjuku Rush and Midnight Run.

Who could forget the concerts!?
Two weeks ago I was lucky enough to travel to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in Wisconsin to see Rage Against the Machine, and the Dave Matthews Band twice!  Three concerts in three days!  To see set lists for all three, check out my girlfriend Tonsatz's journal.  It was a mind-blowing weekend.  Not to mention messy, the Rage concert turned the hill into pure mud, and chaos ensued.  The weekend was capped off by our van getting rammed by a guy driving under the influence of both drugs and alcohol.  No one was hurt, and the guy was caught, so it didn't come close to ruining the weekend.  I still can't comprehend what I witnessed, let alone that it's over.  I'll get over it somehow, but for now I am out!

I've been obsessed with the new Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds Live at Radio City dvd, and this journal's lyrics are from the song Gravedigger.  It's just the short chorus, but I love it and Dave's voice is absolutely haunting in this version, I recommend it to anyone who is remotely a fan of his stuff.

O Time, Where Art Thou?

No Time!
I have stuff I want to upload and I want to get to all of the deviations in my inbox, but I'm just all over the place.  Not that that is necessarily a bad thing.

And Yet!
I can find time to write a journal though.  Have to make sure that everyone knows that I'm not ignoring their art =P There is lots of cool stuff going on so it can get hard to keep track of it all.  I've even seen a bunch of activity from deviants that have been awol for toooo long.  Great to see.

Things of Importance
The art show officially finished today, my piece is back in the house (in the basement in fact) and there will be pics soon.  This weekend.  I promise.  Following those might be a flash piece so that you can experience the show from your desktop.  It was a great time, and everyone brought quality stuff to the table. :) As I might have said before, I had a blast doing my piece for the show, so I will be doing one more large scale one, then might continue on a smaller scale.  Charcoal is awesome for those that wondered or just plain didn't know.  I also know that some parts of my journal have stayed the same for much too long (stamps, threadless, art status), they will change soon!

Gotta get off of this journal now.  Right after I put in the new lyrics.  ;P

PS.  If anyone started reading this thinking it was about barbequing, sorry to disappoint.  Though I'm not sure why you would think that.

This journal's lyrics are brought to you by A Perfect Circle, and their stirringly beautiful song, Sleeping Beauty.  I try and limit the lyrics to just one section, but the whole song is pretty much perfect lyrically.

Drunk on ego
Truly thought I could make it right
If I kissed you one more time to
Help you face the nightmare
But you're far too poisoned for me
Such a fool to think that I can wake you from your slumber
That I could actually heal you..

FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS
8000+ YOU GUYS ROCK!  FOREVER GRATEFUL! :thanks:

TOOL for the WIN
I finally fulfilled my promise to myself and saw TOOL last night  Kick ass show in every respect.  The music, the visualizations, the lasers!  Scored and new totally kick ass shirt too, which unfortunately set me back 38 dollars.  Ughs.  But what can you do, it's just too awesome.  My only gripe with the concert was that they didn't play The Grudge.  :(  That made an unhappy Spencer.  But then I remembered how awesome everything else was, and I was fine again.  Here is a quick set list, not in the proper order:

Stinkfist
Forty-Six and Two
Schism
Lateralus
Vicarious
Jambi
Wings for Marie
10000 Days
The Pot
Lost Keys
Rosetta Stoned
Intension (not the whole thing)
Right in Two

Lateralus was probably the best song of the night, and included a drum duel between Danny (of Tool) and the opening band's drummer, which was mind blowing.  Then the end of the song was so good my girlfriend almost cried.  It was that good.  No lies.

The worst part about going to a TOOL concert is that it has to end.  Boo.

Art Art Art Updates
It's almost done.  It got some hold ups due to family dropping in, and then my best friend moving to British Columbia for the rest of the summer, so I was busy spending time with friends and family.  Tomorrow though I have to make some decisions on framing it, and put on the (hopefully) finishing touches. :D  Booyeah.  Orikon told me he wants to collab sometime so I will post anything going on with that.  And another shirt or two!  I want to get some time for those!  ARG TIME!

The new lyrics are from Third Eye by Tool.  This isn't even one of my favourites, but these lyrics are stunning.

Shroud-ing all the ground around me
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
And blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
To pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
To see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
But the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
Singing one familiar song...

More updates to the scraps, my big charcoal piece is coming along quite well I must.  Though it is going to need a name soon, any ideas are welcome.  I do wonder sometimes if I'm going to ever submit something new to my actual gallery  I imagine I will when they finally release the portfolio feature, then I won't be so picky about what makes it into the gallery.  Keep a lookout though, I have some photos sitting around that just might make the cut.  Maybe even as photomanipulations!  I've been wanting to use my own photos in a manip, but just haven't gotten to it yet.

The Life Paragraph
The days are closing in on TOOL concert!  I am so pumped, you cannot imagine.  But I've been doing random things, like midgetparts' show opening last night, which was quite sweet.  And a lock tour tonight!  Sweetness. :D

Short journal. End. ;P

The lyrics for this journal come courtesy of the Red Hot Chili Peppers by way of their song Slow Cheetah.  Incubus almost got put here again, but I figured I should spread the love around a bit.

I know a girl
She worked in a store
She knew not what
Her life was for
She barely knew her name

They tried to tell her
She would never be
As happy as the girl
In the magazine
She bought it with her pay

Give it up for art updates!
Even though no one ever responds to my journals (beside Orikon that is), I see some of you still watch my scraps!  Go figure. =P  For those of you not in the know I've been adding my work in progress shots of my piece for the Naturally Deviant Art show.  For those of you REALLY not in the know, the art show is happening at the Whitespace Gallery here in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.  Should be good fun, we have a wide range of artists involved, something for everyone.  Anyway here are some links to the pics:
www.deviantart.com/deviation/5… www.deviantart.com/deviation/5… www.deviantart.com/deviation/5… www.deviantart.com/deviation/5… will probably get more done tonight, but probably won't have the shots up until tomorrow.  I need to add it to the artwork section of the journal, but with the next pic update.

Concert Updatation!
So a week or so ago I find out Rage Against the Machine is playing another concert.  I went to check it out, only to find that it was happening the day before the Dave Matthews concert I'm heading to.  BUT WAIT!  It's happening at the same place!!! :faint:  Queens of the Stone Age are opening for them!!!!! *Double Faint* Anyway, I got my tickets to the Rage concert on saturday, so that weekend will probably blow my mind.  Alpine Valley here I come!

One last paragraph
I'll probably be submitting another shirt to Threadless soon so check my journal, I need your votes!  If you want to see anything specific made, give me a shout.  Maybe I just need a little more direction to get one of these submissions selected :D  I got my two new dA shirts this week!  Check out the new lyrics journal section too!  bobthebldr and I both agree that all journals need lyrics :)

ART PARAGRAPH
So I submitted a pair of scraps today, Tree Sketch 1 and Tree Sketch 2.  Very creative names, I know.  I know these might not be what my long time watchers are looking for, but they are sketches for an artwork I will be doing soon. (Should be started today)  For those of you not in the know, ssm-deviants is having an art show called Naturally Deviant in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario.  It's going to be in the Whitespace gallery, and these are sketches for the piece that I will be submitting.  I picked up the paper Friday, and I'll be doing it in charcoal.  I have high hopes for this piece, and I will post some work-in-progress shots along the way.  So check the art section of my journal in the little while, and this WILL HAPPEN, because it has to. =P

A Big Thanks
Goes out DigitalPhenom for awarding me his monthly feature!!!  :thanks: I am honored to be up there, he always has terrific artworks in his journal.  He is one of those deviants that is great at enhancing the community here at DeviantART, and being a great artist on top of that :)  I encourage everyone to check him out, he deserves all the support he gets.  Also, thanks to all of those who arrived here via DigitalPhenom's journal, your support is greatly appreciated.

One more for good luck
To top off today's journal I have a quick request for anyone that makes it this far.  Visit this www.webware.com/html/ww/100/20… and vote for deviantART, because I do NOT want to see mySpace beat us out.  We have to prove how strong the community is here by banding together and stomping the competition!

K, here's your ride.
Get your petals out and lay them in the aisle
Pretend your garden grows and that it's your day to wed.
We found your man he's drinking up, he's all-american.
And he'll drive.
He's voluntarily graced to end your life,
He'll tidy up,
It's sad to hope leave your shell to us,
You explode,
You firefly, a tiny boat with all,
Further on the world tilts back and poison pours.
And so, your satellite.
You're a tidal wave, you're a big surprise.
And I, one more night to be your mother.

A Brand New Journal

Journal Entry: Mon May 21, 2007, 9:55 AM
Journal Entry

Monstrous journal time!  My updates are getting waay too far apart, or so people tell me. =P

BRAND NEW CONCERT
So friday night I was in Toronto for the Brand New concert at the Kool Haus.  It was so damn good and so damn crazy.  I went with my girlfriend, best friend, and sister.  Scored a sweet new shirt too.  We were there at around  five I believe, with the doors opening at 6:30 and the first band, Colour Revolt, playing at 7:30.  They were pretty good, and probably would have been better if the crowd wasn't so anxious to see Brand New.  The best part came near the end when they had three drummers playing simultaneously.  It seemed that members from other bands playing randomly on stage would be a theme for the night =P

The second band, Anathallo, came on at 8:30 and played a pretty good show.  They had 7 members (If I remember correctly) and they played so really interesting stuff.  They played a dozen different instruments which kept their music different, but together most of the songs sounded the same.  Once again other band members popped on stage, mostly Jesse Lacey (lead singer of Brand New) running around in his bear hat.

Finally at 9:30 (we had been waiting four and a half hours now) Brand New took the stage, and the show got really crazy.  Up until this point the four of us had been maybe 10 people back from the stage, but as soon at Brand New got on stage it got too violent to actually pay attention to the music and I went with my gf and sister to an area that was less stupid.  Unfortunately we completely lost my best friend, who we didn't see again until the end.  I went all the way back in to try and find him (which had to be one of the hardest thing to do), and even though I made it all the way back to the front, I couldn't find him.  Apparently he spend most the concert at the front in the middle of it all.

The great part was that we didn't have to go too far to get out of the craziness and we weren't all that far from the stage.  I have to say I'm damn glad we got out of there so that we could actually enjoy what turned out to be an amazing show.  Every couple minutes you'd see people being dragged out of the front, I'd hate to have to miss a concert just because I needed to have the crap kicked out of me.

Anyway, Brand New played a ton of songs, here is an unofficial (not quite complete and out of order) list:

Tautou
Sic Transit Gloria... Glory Fades
Okay I Believe You, But My Tommy Gun Don't
The Boy Who Blocked His Own Shot (In Your Face Disgrace)
Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis
Play Crack the Sky
Sowing Season [Yeah]
Milestone
Jesus Christ
Degausser
Limousine
You Won't Know
Luca
The Archers Bows Are Broken
Welcome to Bangkok

Plus some unreleased stuff and some songs from the first album that I can't remember which they played.  There may have only been three songs that I would have liked to have seen, but I can't complain since they played so many.  Limousine, one of my favourite songs to begin with, was probably one of the best performances.  Not only is the song more emotional live, but it is stunning to watch them play, complete with a third guitarist bowing his guitar to do the ending.  It sounded so damn good.

To top all of this awesomeness off, the last song they played was "Welcome to Bangkok", which I didn't even expect them to play at all.  But as they played everyone from the other bands joined them on stage to play.  All 17-20 of them played an wacky extended version of the song (drawn out a little too long imo) in which they didn't all amounts of crazy things.  We're talkn Jesse jumping into the crowd, the first band's drummer running around feeding watermelon to people, people getting piggy back rides and hitting drums on other people heads, guys stacking speakers and drums only to have it fall on them, and guys hitting symbols with drums.  It was ridiculous,  but a damn awesome way to end the party.

All and all I would say it was a very successful trip.  Next up this summer: TOOL :D

An Art Paragraph?
I know the art has been super duper slow lately, but I've been doing some sketches on my tablet, and they will get up here eventually.  I just want to finish them a bit more.  I'm also set to be in the ssm-deviants art show, so I'll definitely have to get something done for that.  Art is coming, I promise.  I have to do my buddy's wedding invitations this afternoon in fact.

Last But NOT Least
Thanks to everyone who keeps visiting me, I've passed 7k, and I owe it all to you guys. :)

:headbang:

So my Overrun shirt completed scoring with a 2.7 which is pretty sweet.  I'm happy with the result, considering two of the shirt that were chosen this week got worse scores.  I am crossing my fingers that it gets picked =P My second submission, Passion, is through, so scroll down to the Threadless section of my journal to check it out.  Vote too! :)

Today marks my last exam :boogy: It's good to have third year done with.  It is a odd feeling though, because fourth year starts in eight days for me :faint: That's what I get for signing up for a spring course.  What I also get is a break, since I won't have a full schedule in the fall, while I am starting my thesis.  So it will be worth it.  I can't decide which goes by faster, University or high school.

Art is slow as usual, all I've really been doing is sketching ideas for a level design for a game that resides in my brain.  I have to start art work on Flux again soon, so maybe you guys will be seeing some screenshots!  I hadn't thought about that :P  Anyway, that's it for this update, thanks if you read this far ;P

Journal Entry

Hey everybody,

The one and only topic of this entry are the new journal elements I have added.  The first being banners for my Threadless.com shirt submissions.  I currently only have one pending approval at the moment, but I will post when they go up for voting so that anyone interested can post their opinion.

The second new thing is the music chart from last.fm.  Stats are awesome, so I had to sign up so that I can see all of my music listening in chart form. :D  If you are member too, note me or send me a friend invite if you want.

Not much other than that.  School is winding down so that might mean more free time.  I do have one spring term course though.  It seems so weird having to go back to school right away.  I'll get over it.  Oh and my devWATCH mailbox is kinda full since I got so many submissions while I was away over the weekend, but they should be dealt with in the next couple days.  I'm out for now, relaxing time before the studying begins.

New Journal! : I Need Some Input

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 12, 2007, 10:32 AM
Journal Entry

Hey Deviants,

6000 Pageviews!
Thanks to everyone who made this possible :thanks: I felt bad for not saying anything about this for three days, but I want to make each new journal entry worth reading =P This officially marks the point where I can't really call the 5k project "5k" anymore.  It just makes the whole situation seem goofier.  The name officially changes to Florapocalypse.  I still haven't rectified the memory situation, I'm lacking time on top of that.  This is the wrong time to talk about it, that's for the Art News =P

Why I Need Input
Anybody who gets to this paragraph, I am looking for ideas for my journal.  I want to feature people, mainly from my group of friends and watchers, but I'm not sure exactly how I want to go about it.  Anyone who has a neat idea, let me hear it!  I want to help promote people who support me and the rest of the community, I'm looking forward to anything you guys may have in mind. :)

Arting News
Not much. :(  All of my arting at the moment goes towards my design class, and it's got some big projects going on right now.  Maybe some details of those will go up.

BUT! I have started an account over at Threadless.com.  I'm under the alias Toop6, and I don't really have much up, just two slogan tees, and I've got one going through approval right now.  Definitely check it out, the site is pretty funky, especially if you don't like wearing what everyone else is wearing

The Random Thought Paragraph
Thoughts!  Thoughts.  Thoughts..... hmmmm.  Oh yes.  For any Sault deviants who may be reading this, and have or haven't heard about midgetparts' idea of a deviantART public showing in town, I encourage you to drop him a note and get involved!  I would like to see this thing happen.  Although I seem like a bum because I can't make this week's meeting, I will be in class, I can definitely see myself getting some of my pieces printed for the show.  If this one has a successful turnout, I would imagine it would become a regular event, especially if it attracted more Sault artists to the site and the group.

Alright, enough blabbing.  THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!

Another Journal Name!

Journal Entry: Fri Feb 23, 2007, 3:50 PM
Journal Entry

Hey hey,

Personal News
So I went to another Pistons game wednesday.  Good game, we ripped Orlando apart.  Four of us went, down and back in the same day.  I did 10+ hours of driving, and we got home at 4:30am thursday :faint:  That goes down as the most driving I've done in one day, and it actually wasn't too bad, minus the break I had to take around twelve o'clock.  It was worth it though!  Road trips never fail to kick ass. :D

Also, mentioned in my last journal, I saw BNL last weekend.  They do an awesome live show.  I am so glad I got to see them, I've been a fan for a while now.  The best was the performance of Brian Wilson, which was alot like the version on their greatest hits album.

Unfortunately I am still waiting for them to start selling tickets to that Tool show in Hamilton :ninja:  I NEED SOME.  On a not so cool note, I just checked the tool site and it seems that the drummer had to undergo surgery Wednesday for a torn bicep :o Very not cool.  So it seems that they may be rescheduling the north american tour stops.  I guess it won't be on my birthday any more :(  We'll see.

Arting News
I was working on the flower drawing this afternoon, and it's coming alot pretty well.  Now if only I knew how to finish it.  Gaaah.  Soon.  Soon.

If anyone is actually paying attention, the "progress bar" on the 5k actually went down this update (at the time I'm writing this at least).  Mainly because I got some feedback that is making me rethink parts of it.  It's for the good of the piece so don't get worried or anything =P (as if anyone worries)

The Random Thought Paragraph
Well, not totally random.  I've been considering these 'mood' smilies that you can put on all of your comments and I was wondering how many people actually use them.  I like using them because they kind of tally an overall mood for the people who have commented on an artwork.  I know I used to forget to use it before, but I'm trying to get in the habit of putting them in, just as an extra bit of feedback.  Maybe I'll put up a poll about it.

Anyway, I'm done for now.

Super Devious Journal Entry

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 15, 2007, 9:31 PM
Journal Entry

Check it out!

I am now sporting a new journal look thanks to my good friend Orikon  (who just hit his 7000th pageview by the way :w00t:)  Feel free to comment or criticize, I know Orikon always enjoys that. :D

New Artwork Journal Section
Along with this new journal look comes my new "Artworks" section! (found down below)  This section contains all of my upcoming artworks, even if they are still in my noggin.  Ha, noggin.  I needed to use that word, I also like how Firefox 2.0's spell check accepts it =P  Anyway, other than unexpected, spur of the moment works, all planned concepts will be given a spot here.  Ones that I have concept sketches of will also get links to my scraps so that there is a little more of an idea of what is coming.  All of the progress bars will start empty, and most will start as nameless projects, but it will all come together eventually.  Keep an eye out, I may update in secret ;P

5k News
I don't know how long it's been that I've been talking about this project, but after the problem a couple days ago work on it will probably be postponed a week or two.  I hope not three.  So, since I have been archiving all of my other art plans, I figured I would start on another one.  Spring break is this coming week, in fact today was my last class, so I couldn't not do art over the break. :D

Personal News
As I already said, "Study Week" is upon me, so I'm heading to Detroit for another Pistons game :)  Also, Tool is playing in Hamilton on my birthday, so there is a good chance I will be going to that :D:D That would no doubt blow my mind.  Barenaked Ladies this Saturday too!  Hooray for music. :boogie:

I think that's it for today, other than I will probably put up a new deviantID to match this flashy new journal.  So, yea. :P

Hey Everyone,

Well, I have been working on the 5k project heavily the last two day, I've put in at least another six hours of work.  Its really starting to come together as of last night.

Today I ran into a problem though.  A memory problem.  It seems that the file has gotten so large its getting next to impossible to work on.  Once it loads I can work on it quite well, for a bit, until rendering becomes impossible because of the amount of memory I have.  Then I went to save it, and couldn't.  I didn't lose much of anything, but now I'm not sure what to do.  I guess maybe I'll just go out and buy some more ram, I do have a 70 dollar gift card for Future shop coming to me. (so much for that DS I wanted)

This means work on it will have to wait :(  But at least everyone knows that I have been doing work on it.  Currently its 2500x5000 pixels, and 41+ megabytes in size.  Its made up of more than 600 objects.  I would say it's 70-75% done.  It was supposed to have red in it, but it doesn't (at least I don't think it will anymore), its mostly blue, green, and yellow.  Gah, this sucks, I was moving along so well :shakefist:

I'm out.

Hey everyone,

Another one of my intermittent journals, just to explain what's running through my head.  Not that anyone really seems to care  =P  Today's journal will be returning to that subdivided format, so that readers can sort through what they don't care about :D

New Deviation Submissions
So I uploaded that pair of concepts for the contest this week, though they probably won't stay, but I was considering some other things I should probably submit since 5k isn't getting any closer. The first being a tattoo design I did a couple months ago, and I'm pretty sure I've talked about before =P  Second being a shot of the log2n.ca site, and the third being some pictures of the paper sculptures I've been doing lately.  Living up to that "General Artist" title it seems.  The only problem is that my gallery keeps getting more and more fragmented, it isn't consistent at all when viewed as a whole.  It bugs me, and keeps me from submitting most of the stuff I do.  I kind of look forward to the new portfolio page to cure my organization needs. :)

Ha!  There is only one section!  Well, I guess you read it or you don't =P  It's funny, I seem kind of inactive but I'm here everyday, surfn' art and answering messages.  It seems DeviantART is setting personal records for traffic, which is awesome.  Alright, I'm off to do some wire sculpture, but look for a couple new things soon.  I promise.  They are already done, I don't see how I could possibly flop on this one.
